The UniSoft products are developed under the guidance of Dr. Bengt H. Fellenius with the intent of assisting practicing engineers in carrying out geotechnical design. The geotechnical concepts behind the software can be found in papers written by Dr. Fellenius, notably his text book, the "Red Book", entitled Basics of Foundation Design.

The Red Book supplements conventional, more comprehensive geotechnical textbooks and addresses design analysis for settlement of embankment, footing foundations, and retaining walls, evaluation of results of static and dynamic pile tests, and vertical drain projects.
